AffiKNITy MADRID Retreat Recap: Fiber Festivals, Local Adventures and Knitting Our Way Through Spain

It was eight dreamy days in Madrid with AffiKNITy Retreat, and what an unforgettable adventure it was! This incredible group of knitters brought so much joy, laughter, and creativity to our time together. From yarn-filled shopping sprees to cultural explorations, delicious food, and the best company, every moment was a treasure.

Here are just a few of our favorite fiber experiences from our time in Spain!

Yarn Shopping & Local Fiber Treasures

No knitting retreat is complete without a little fiber-filled shopping! We visited some of the most amazing spots for yarn lovers:

  • Miss Kits Yarn Shop – A cozy haven for knitters with a stunning selection of yarns and accessories.
  • Love Yarn Festival – A true paradise for yarn enthusiasts, filled with incredible vendors and fiber inspiration everywhere.
  • El Rastro Flea Market – A Madrid must-visit! We admired antique sewing machines, hunted for unique finds, and soaked in the lively atmosphere.
  • Wool Dreamers – This special visit left us all wishing we had bought even more yarn! And yes, that was Kori diving into the wool and making a wool angel!

Workshops & Knitting Fun

Beyond shopping, we had plenty of time to unwind, knit, and enjoy each other’s company:

  • Taking a fantastic knitting class with Aimee Gilles.
  • Meeting up with Carol Feller to talk all things knitting and creativity.

Exploring Madrid’s History, Food & Beyond

Of course, we also immersed ourselves in the beauty and culture of Spain:

  • Wandering the streets of Madrid, taking in the stunning architecture.
  • Indulging in some of the most amazing food Spain has to offer.
  • Taking a cooking class at Cooking Clubhouse Madrid, where we learned to make delicious Spanish dishes.
  • Venturing to the historic city of Toledo, with its breathtaking views and rich history.
  • Experiencing the passion of Flamenco at Corral de la Morería—a night to remember!

The Best Part? The People.

The most special part of this retreat was spending eight unforgettable days with an amazing group of knitters: Relaxing at our hotel, admiring everyone’s newly acquired yarn goodies. Playing “Can you spot the fiber craft?” in paintings and photos in museums. The laughter, the shared creativity, the inside jokes, and the friendships made—it all made this experience truly magical.
